CAABO is one of the main architects that developed a national discourse on legislation and policies affecting the Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) businesses and community with the Asian/Pacific American Chamber of Commerce & Entrepreneurship (ACE).
AAPIs own 1.6 million businesses and create around 3 million jobs. We are an economic engine for the nation. But we have had a hard time to making our voices heard, especially in Washington, and our potentials haven’t been completely recognized. Once we have more resources and opportunities, especially though interaction with federal agencies and Congress, we can definitely continue to grow.
As the one voice representing the AAPI business community, ACE has selected policies that affect the success of not only AAPI businesses, but also the development of our local communities: (1)small business, (2)international trade and commerce, (3)immigration, (4)data collection, and (5)AAPIs in the workforce.
Finally, ACE’s first Legislative Agenda and Policy Priorities were published thanks to its board members, advisors, and partners. ACE hosted a Congressional reception on November 12 (Please click here to read Congresswoman Chu’s remarks at the reception covered by the World Journal) and National Conference & Banquet on November 13 to celebrate the publication, discuss the included topics in-depth, and to disseminate the Agenda and Priorities to significant key players of the Washington policy making scene, including Congress members. The two events also brought networking opportunities for AAPI business people with their colleagues and DC policy makers. The Agenda document is the first national-level legislature-targeted publication reflecting the unique needs of the AAPI business and community.
CAABO attended the events as one of ACE’s partners and a contributor to the publication. Ms. Chiling Tong, co-Chair of CAABO, was involved in and led the project as the Policy Committee Chair of ACE.
